We’ve all been there…you finally mustered up the motivation to get your desktop organized and suddenly you realize your inbox is COMPLETELY OUT OF CONTROL.

I know this feeling well, so I’ve compiled a list of quick tips for staying organized.

If it takes 2 minutes just do it now

If you can just answer that email in 2 minutes, just do it now. Putting it off just makes it a bigger deal than it needs to be. Bonus, if you are keeping a to-do list, you can cross it off and that oh-so-satisfying feeling to accomplishment is only 90 seconds away.

Keep a bullet journal

I know, it’s the latest trend. But, there really is some logic to it. Many of you may be thinking “oh, that’s just for those type-A crazies, no thank you, not for me” – but, trust me, give it a try and you won’t regret it. It’s actually a lot simpler than you may think. Or, you can let your creative heart sing. Bullet journals can be whatever you want! A collection of to-do lists, mixed with daily schedules; or maybe a monthly tracker of your exercise mixed with daily logs.

Organize that pesky inbox.

Most email servers have folders you can use to organize your emails. I started using these the moment I opened up my email account. I have folders for school work, personal, wedding, taxes, the list goes on (take a peak below). On some email accounts you can even have sub folders. I also make use of flagging important emails and keeping them towards the top of my inbox, so I don’t forget about them.

Invest in a filing cabinet

This one may sound a little corporate and weird, but trust me, it’s worth it. When my husband and I moved in together we immediately invested in a filing cabinet. We use it for everything from storing our marriage license to tax document to important random receipts we have no idea what to do with. This has been invaluable to organizing the never-ending papers flying around our house.

Take 10 minutes to declutter

Taking 10 minutes to organize your space can be so helpful for your mental health. So just take the time to dedicate just a few minutes of each day, or even a few times per week, to picking up stuff off the floor, folding your clothes, putting away your dishes. You’ll be glad you did!
